Sept 6 2011

Today we had a lot going on! It was the first day of guidance for the year. Mrs. Ledger read the students a story about taking your time when completing work, or as I say “doing their personal best.” You may see the page that they where given to color while she was reading. We also had our first day of library! The students each got to pick out two books. We will have library every Monday for the rest of the school year. (It was on Tuesday this week since we didn’t have school yesterday.) If your student brings a book home, make sure it gets returned otherwise they won’t be able to check out any more books.

We also took a BRI or Basic Reading Inventory assessment. Each student was assessed on their reading ability. Then we will group the students according to their score so that they have more individualize instruction. Everyday (once scores are in) we will have small group learning time. If your students talk about taking a reading test, this was it.

Thank you for those of you who have been checking the orange folders and sending them back. These are very important! If your student has lost his/hers please let me know right away so I can replace it. These help me communicate with you what’s going on in the classroom and in the school.

If you have any of the following you would like to donate to the class we would be very appreciative:
1.     Socks (for erasers)
2.     Hand sanitizer
3.     Head phones for an Ipod/computer
4.     BOOKS!!! (We can always use more books)

Last, but not least, this week I will be sending home a reading log. I will be asking the students to read or listen to a book read to them every night. Then they will need to record the time (minimum of 5 minutes a night). Students with the most minutes read will be able to pick a book off my shelves to keep as their own.

Wrap it up:
*First day of Library and Guidance
* BRI – Reading test
* Orange Folders
* Wish lists
* Reading Log

KEEP AN EYE OUT FOR THOSE BOX TOPS!!!
